Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 August 2026

This policy explains what the GroupSync Chrome extension ("GroupSync", "the extension", "we") does with your data. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past — it is short because GroupSync does very little with your data.

The short version: GroupSync processes contact data entirely on your own computer. Your extracted names and phone numbers are never uploaded, never stored on our servers, never sold, and never shared with anyone.

1. What GroupSync does

GroupSync has a single purpose: exporting the member list of a WhatsApp group you are already a member of into a contact file (CSV, Excel, or vCard). It reads the participant list from the WhatsApp Web page you have open and converts it into a file you download.

2. What data GroupSync handles

When you click "Extract Group Members", GroupSync reads the following from the group currently open in your browser:

This is personally identifiable information, and we treat it as such.

3. Where that data goes

It stays on your device. All extraction, formatting, and file generation happens locally inside Chrome on your computer. The export file is created in your browser's memory and saved directly to your Downloads folder.

We do not operate any server that receives contact data. There is no account system, no database, and no backend that your extracted contacts are sent to. We never see them.

Extracted contacts are held temporarily in chrome.storage.local — local storage on your own machine — for one reason only: the extension popup closes when the payment tab opens, and without this the scan would be lost before your file could be generated. This data is stored locally, is overwritten by your next extraction, and is never synced or transmitted.

4. What GroupSync does not do

5. Analytics and tracking

The extension contains no analytics, no telemetry, and no third-party tracking. We do not use Google Analytics or any equivalent inside the extension, and we collect no usage statistics about you.

6. Payments

Exporting a file costs ₹50 per download. Payments are processed entirely by Razorpay on Razorpay's own PCI-DSS Level 1 certified infrastructure.

GroupSync never sees, handles, or stores your card number, UPI PIN, CVV, or bank credentials. Once a payment succeeds, our payment page passes a transaction reference to the extension purely to unlock your download; it is used immediately and not retained. Razorpay's handling of your payment information is governed by Razorpay's privacy policy.

7. Permissions we request, and why

That is the complete list. No broader permission is requested, and none of these are used for any purpose beyond the single function described above.

8. Data retention and deletion

Because we never receive your contact data, there is nothing on our side to retain or delete. The locally stored copy is replaced each time you run a new extraction, and is removed entirely if you uninstall the extension or clear its storage from chrome://extensions.

Files you download belong to you and are yours to manage. We recommend storing them securely and deleting them when they are no longer needed.

9. Your responsibilities

You are responsible for how you use the contact data you export. Please only export groups you are legitimately a member of, respect the privacy of the people whose details you export, never send unsolicited bulk messages, and comply with all data protection and anti-spam laws that apply to you — including India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, the GDPR, and the TCPA where relevant.

10. Children

GroupSync is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

11. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new "last updated" date. Material changes affecting how data is handled will also be reflected in the extension's Chrome Web Store listing.
